- **Matching:** a permit counts only when its contractor's CSLB license number matches a C-16 Fire Protection contractor in our directory.
- **Which value:** the contractor's own estimated cost. The city often revises that figure to its standard valuation (about $621 per sprinkler head), which sets the permit fee but isn't a price, so we don't use it.
- **Excluded:** cancelled and withdrawn permits, paperwork-only permits (as-built drawings, revisions), and values under $100.
- **Classified by description:** sprinkler, fire alarm or both, from the permit's work description. Head counts and relocation versus new work also come from the description, so only permits that state them are in those tables.
- **Ranges:** "typical range" is the middle half of jobs (25th to 75th percentile). Groups with fewer than five permits aren't shown.
- Declared values can understate the final price: change orders and work outside the permit aren't included.
